Full text description

An AGP is a commonly used file format for describing assemblies. They are accepted by GenBank as well as other genome browsers.

AGP (short for A Golden Path) format was originally conceived by the International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium in order to describe the assembly of thousands of BAC sequences (both finished and unfinished) to form the genome assembly of human. This is now the most commonly used format for specifying assembly information.
