Full text description
The ZTR format is used for storing "trace" data from DNA sequencing instruments; both older analogue chromotogram data and the newer next-gen sequencing platforms. It is an alternative to the SCF format, but with its own high compression ratios and more generalisation.
Internally ZTR is also used within the SRF format. In this context SRF can be considered as a container (much like tar or zip) and ZTR as the data format within the container.
A reference implementation of a C library supporting ZTR can be found in the STADEN io_lib library.
