Thanks for the hint about the recent "MEMs" implementation that "can serve as a drop-in replacement for the MEMs algorithm in MUMmer 3". Seems to be working perfectly where MUMmer crashed :-) --Dan 15:08, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

The error from the original MUMmer was:

mummer: suffix tree construction failed: textlen=727301215 larger than maximal textlen=536870908

(This problem also can be solved by building a 64-bit version of mummer, making sure the #define SIXTYFOURBITS is set in types.h)

(In other words, add a line to the src/kurtz/libbasedir/types.h file with this content

#define SIXTYFOURBITS

before the line that says

#ifdef SIXTYFOURBITS

and then run

make install

again)
